Tips for getting books leveled for reading with Kathy J Perry

The TufFish Show is for writers who want to get their first, next or current book out into the world, and this week we welcomed award winning author Kathy Perry!

Kathy shared how getting your books leveled for reading enables libraries and schools to provide better guidance for children that matches their reading level. We also talked about leveraging themes within books as well as building characters and vocabulary lists.

Our guest is Kathy Perry. After the passing of her parents, Kathy evaluated what she was doing with her life and her contribution to others. She’s always had a heart for teaching kids. Kathy has been a classroom teacher, a homeschool mom, a tutor, and a substitute over many years. Now, she’s written, illustrated, and published the Bandana Acres series of Early Reader Chapter Books with solid moral lessons that fill a genre gap between picture and chapter books. Fellow teachers say, “Great! Keep it up. We need more of these.”

As a twelve year-old, Kathy identified with a fictional orphaned girl and was so impressed with her cleverness and honesty that Kathy wanted to be like her. It was this story that inspired Kathy to write Emeline - A Journey, a story that will educate, encourage, and inspire your tween or teen to find their way as a confident young adult.
