Children's book process from idea to book with Jed (Jedlie) Doherty

The TufFish Show is for writers who want to get their first, next or current book out into the world, and this week we welcomed friend, children's author, and Reading with Your Kids podcast host Jed (Jedlie) Doherty!

Jed's passion to serve children has been the driver for all that he's done. During our chat, Jed shared the process he went through to take his children's book idea to an actual book. He shared what it was like working with an illustrator and tips for strengthening a story that's for children.

Jed Doherty is a husband, father, former licensed, certified social worker, award winning children’s author, professional magician and the host of the Reading With Your Kids Podcast. After working in the juvenile justice system for close to a decade, Jed left the traditional field of human services to serve humans magic and laughter from the stage. Since that time he has brought a magical message of caring and community to millions of hearts throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

In 2015 Jed (also known as Jedlie) wrote and published The Great Maritini, a magical retelling of the Story of the Good Samaritan. That book was named one of the top 7 books that teach kids kindness by ChildrensPublishing.com and received Story Monster Approval.

In 2017 Jed launched the Reading With Your Kids Podcast to inspire families to grow closer by reading more together. And not just with our young kids. The show does this by interviewing authors of all genres of children’s literature. Past guests include LeVar Burton, Brad Meltzer, Kate DiCamillo, and Jennifer Milius. Since its debut, the podcast has been downloaded to over 180 countries on every continent in the world, including Antarctica, and was nominated for the iHeartRadio Best Kids and Family Podcast award. The show will be publishing its 1000th episode on March 26.
